Boulder Orthopedic

Boulder Orthopedics in Boulder and Lafayette, Colorado uses onsite state-of-the-art services to help diagnose orthopedic conditions and formulate treatment plans for success. Our onsite advanced services include:

Arthroscopic Surgery

The surgeons at Boulder Orthopedics are experts at performing arthroscopic surgery. Arthroscopy requires only small incisions and uses an arthroscope to guide the surgery. An arthroscope is a narrow tube that contains a miniature camera, light, and viewing instrument. Fiber optics transfer images of internal structures to a monitor for viewing. The arthroscope allows the surgeon to see inside of a joint instead of using a large incision and opening the joint. Further, thin surgical instruments can be used with the arthroscope during procedures. Arthroscopy is commonly used for shoulder and knee surgeries and may be used for smaller joints as well. Because arthroscopic surgery uses such small incisions, it is associated with less pain, bleeding, infection risk, and a quicker recovery time than traditional open surgeries.

Advanced Diagnostics

Onsite X-rays - If your condition warrants an X-ray, you can get your X-ray taken right at the Boulder Orthopedics  facility. There’s no need to make a special trip anywhere else.  X-rays are used to diagnose abnormalities, such as fractures, in bones and some diseases in soft tissues. X-rays are fast and painless. All you need to do is hold very still while the images are taken.

Foot Pressure Mapping - The MetaScan System™ System provides a barefoot analysis of the distribution of pressure across the foot. This innovative technology provides data to support a diagnosis and help formulate treatment. The MetaScan System™ serves several functions, from basic foot screenings and monitoring of rehabilitation progress to recommending orthotics or special footwear. To participate in the study, you simply stand or walk on the mat and a computer processes the data. This information is then analyzed by the therapist to aid in an appropriate treatment plan.

Electrodiagnostic Studies - Electrodiagnostic studies are used to help determine how well a nerve works or to help identify a specific sight of nerve compression. Boulder Orthopedics offers onsite electrodiagnostic nerve studies. Our Board-Certified Physicians have advanced training and experience, which makes them well-qualified to provide nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG) as part of a comprehensive musculoskeletal examination.

Nerve Conduction Studies - Nerve conduction studies are used to measure the amount of time it takes for a nerve impulse or message to travel from one nerve location to another. To conduct the study, sticky patches will be placed over the nerve on your skin. Your doctor will stimulate the nerve and the results are recorded.

Electromyography (EMG) - An electromyography (EMG) measures the impulses in muscles to identify poor nerve input.  Healthy muscles need impulses to perform movements. To conduct the EMG, your doctor will place fine needles through your skin and into the muscles that the nerve controls. Your doctor will be able to determine the amount of nerve impulses conducted when you contract your muscles. An EMG is often done at the same time as nerve conduction studies.
